Hi, I got an old ISA Soundblaster 16, Ive heared that it should be no problem getting it running under linux, but this is not true for me. I tried isapnptools and did pnpdump, but I always only get

I Tried disabling PnP in the BIOS, enabling it, set to "Other PnP OS" or "no PnP OS", no change at all. The Information for the ISA Interface by lspci are: 0000:00:07.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82371SB PIIX3 ISA [Natoma/Triton II] (rev 01) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0
Ive read that I might have to recompile the kernel, so how would i get the DSL kernel source? Or should I use the vanilla one?

Did you try "sudo modprobe sb"?

Hi Ben: There's no need to recompile -- the 'sb16' module is already included. I don't think recompiling is going to help. I am quite sure that 'sb16' is the correct module (have used an ISA SB16 briefly, with Linux).
Things you might want to try: (1) Wipe off dust (if any) and reseat the card. (2) Try another ISA slot. (3) Check for bad contact -- The card should be aligned with the backplate, so that all the gold-colored connectors go all the way into the ISA slot. Sometimes, the card may be attached at a slight angle with the backplate, so that one side of connectors doesn't go all the way in. This might cause the card to not be detected.
After doing the above, boot up and re-run 'pnpdump'.
